Overnight flight from the USA
Arrival to Catania via Rome. After arrival, you will be met by your tour escort and transferred to your hotel in Taormina. (For extension passengers: Journey south from Sorrento along the rest of the Italian Peninsula, enjoy the scenic drive and landscape throughthe regions of Southern Italy before crossing the straits of Messina to reach Taormina). Taormina is one of the most attractive resorts in the Mediterranean, Mount Etna in one direction and the metallic blue sea in the other. Balance of the afternoon is at leisure. Tonight, dinner is at your hotel. (D)
Day 3 Taormina
Morning walking tour of the charming city center of Taormina, including the Greek/Roman Amphitheater with its spectacular view of Giardini Naxos and Mount Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe. The balance of the day is yours for relaxation, or choose to
explore the slopes of Mt Etna, with our optional tour that also includes an interesting honey tasting session in Zafferana. We then continue to 6,000 ft where you can enjoy the best views, as we drive through the fertile slopes and villages that sit on ancient volcanic eruptions. This evening, dinner is at your hotel.(B,D)
Today experience an included excursion to Syracuse. Including the Archaeological Park, Greek Theater, Latomia del Paradiso and Cave of Dionysius’ Ear. On the way back to Taormina we offer you a once in a lifetime experience! Optional: “The God Father tour” featuring the authentic villages chosen by Francis Ford Coppola for most of the scenes of the God Father, this is also a way to explore the real untouched Sicilian countryside, local lifestyle and culture. This evening savor a special Sicilian dinner with wine, in a restaurant characteristic of this region. (B,D)
Morning departure for Agrigento, famous for its magnificent Valley of the Temples. Today we cross the center of the island. Famous for the weat crops and table grapes. Enjoy a guided tour of the Valley including the Temples of Castor and Pollux, Zeus, Concord and Hercules. Dinner at hotel. (B,D)
Journey northwest along the Sicilian coast to Palermo, stop in Marsala, situated at the western-most point of the island. You will visit a wine cellar where this special wine is aged, and have a chance to sample some Marsala during a wine-tasting session. Later, drive along the coastline of Trapani and stop for a special Sicilian lunch in a restaurant by the sea. Continue to Palermo, as we approach the city outskirts, view Monte Pellegrino, a promontory that overlooks Palermo’s bay, famous for Santa Rosalia, the city’s patron saint. Tonight, dinner is at your hotel. (B,D)
A morning tour of this marvelous city including the Quattro Canti, the Palace of the Normans and its superb Palatine Chapel, the Cathedral, and the famous Benedictine Abbey of Monreale. Here you will admire a 12th century Cathedral, housing very fine mosaics. Balance of the day is at leisure to relax or experience with your tour Director an optional tour to the fishermen picturesque village of Cefalu’. In the evening say “arrivederci” to your travel companions during a festive Farewell dinner at a local restaurant. (B,D)
